Product Description Odorless design No special bags to purchase: uses tall kitchen trash bags, thick grocery bags, or most other plastic bags Convenient one-hand operation Holds disposableor cloth diapers and easy to replace bags and to clean.
Amazon.com Review When dealing with a young baby or squirming toddler at diaper changing time, the last thing you need is a diaper pail that requires two hands. The Diaper Champ helps eliminate hassleand odorby providing convenient one-hand operation for quick disposals. Even better is that this wondrous device takes regular garbage bags. There is no need to constantly buy brand name refills because the Champ can use the typical tall kitchen sack, plus grocery or most other plastic bags. Aside from the use of regular bags making it the economical choice, this feature also makes the Champ more flexible. While diapers will no doubt be the most thrown away item, this pail can also accommodate wipes, cotton swabs, tissues, and other baby essentials. Functionality is simple: drop a diaper (or other trash) into the pail's top receptacle and flip the handle. To empty, just unlock the top and remove the bag. Standing about two feet high, the Diaper Champ's capacity is on par or larger than many of its competitors, usually only requiring a bag change once a week. But the true test of any diaper pail is its smell control, right? Most moms we polled claimed the Champ the hands-down winner, and only a few had occasional escaped odors after 18+ months of use. Once toddlers have been introduced to solid foods using scented bags can help fight off any excess pail smell. Another great tip for keeping the Champ fresh is to quickly spray it down with a disinfectant when changing bags.
Editorial Review In this corner... it's the Diaper Champ. Standing a bit taller than the competition, this wondrous contraption actually uses regular garbage bags, making it super economical (no refills, hooray!). It also holds a few more diapers than other pails we've tried. To use it, simply drop a diaper in and flip the handle. To empty it, just unlock it and remove the bag. But the true test of a diaper pail is its smell control, right? Overall, most moms thought that the Champ deserved its title, and only a few detected an occasional escaped odor or two. It is a bit difficult to open (hint: take it slow), but for those of you with a curious and experimental toddler in your house, this may be okay. --Melissa Wilson

A Nursery Must Have January 3, 2009 Jaime Mccormick (Alexandria, Va) We got this from our registry and it has been in our nursery since the day our 4 month old came home from the hospital. It does a nice job containing all of his dirty diapers. my only problem was that there was no way to tell it was full until you tried to turn the lever and it wouldn't move. Otherwise I wouldn't think of having another gadget like this one. It uses the tall kitchen bags like our kitchen trash can uses, no need to buy special bags. and it keeps the smells contained. we love it!
Don't like it December 31, 2008 B. Petro I purchased this after using the diaper genie product for 18 months. True you don't need to buy special bags, but that means nothing really fits well. Also, there isn't a way to secure the bag. So once it is full it slips down. The smell does not escape while the unit is closed, but when the bag is being changed or when putting a diaper in the smell is bad. The diaper genie did not hold the smell this way. Overall, I would recommend a product like the diaper genie over this one. The cost is higher but so is the overall convenience and ease of use.
Regular cleaning and febreeze only kept the odor contained for 10 months...... December 29, 2008 AMZNMOM (WA) I had to rush out recently because the "odor seal" on the product had thinned out and has caused the dirty smell to linger throughout the house (I change the diaper bag regularly so it's not for lack of care). I bought the Safety 1st pail at Target yesterday that's battery operated.... I hope that this one will last us longer. Hope this review helps!
Great Product!! December 27, 2008 Nancy Nguyen I used the Diaper Champ with my first child (now seven years old) and it was such a great product. I will buy another one since I am now seven months pregnant. 1. I used the same 13 ton Costco trash bags for the Diaper Champ as I used for the kitchen trash can. No buying proprietary bags! 2. This contraption is so easy to use, throw soiled diaper into the whole, flip the handle and it's gone. I changed the bags once every 5-6 days. 2. As baby's diet changes and smell gets worse, you must use DIAPER SACKS (I use these at every diaper change from birth) before throwing them into a diaper pail or trash can!! They are these small blue, scented bags (200 bags by Sassy for $7.00). I also use these when on the go: at a friend's house, I use these to eliminate odor. When out and about, and there are no trash cans nearby, I keep soiled diapers in sack in my diaper bag until I get the chance to throw it away. To be honest, if you were squeezed for money and space, and don't mind throwing diapers into the household trash can, the diaper sacks alone will keep in the smell and do the trick. I just personally prefer having a designated diaper pail for diapers myself. I gave it four stars because if you throw wipes alone, it will occasionally get stuck.
Newer Models Not As Good December 6, 2008 Greg Bulmash (Lynnwood, WA United States) 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
With our first child nearing four and a newborn in the house, one of our two diaper champs (one for upstairs, one for downstairs) kicked the bucket, its foam sealing ring tearing out. I went got a new one and was pleased that they'd stopped the silly detachable base nonsense and was glad it was easier to open. Only one problem, the new mechanism will sometimes catch wipes, hold onto them, and toss them out the next time you flip it. My wife and I have noticed it do this multiple times, particularly when it's getting close to full. So far, it hasn't tossed any terribly soiled wipes on the carpet, but we're just waiting for the day. It's still better than a diaper genie in many respects, but the new design did not go through decent QA testing.
